New Adult/Child Computer Stations Available to the Public

Pro Action of Steuben & Yates, Inc. announces that ten new adult/child computer stations have been placed in six libraries and three family resource centers throughout Steuben County; the remaining station is located at Pro Action’s One-Stop Career Center in Bath. Prattsburg Free Library is one of the lucky libraries.  Stop by and get acquainted with Elf.

Each computer station consists of an Early Literacy Station TM - a touch screen, interactive computer with more than 45 educational programs for children ages 2-11, placed alongside an adult touch screen computer.

The adult computer was designed to be a helpful, easy to use resource for those looking for work. Websites which assist with job searches and resume writing are bookmarked. A program has been installed which teaches basic computer skills in addition to a program which tests for a variety of job skills.

Laura Rossman, Associate Director for Pro Action stated, “It is during these difficult economic times when many of our Steuben County residents are seeking employment that we need to be creative and innovative in providing resources. The adult/child computer stations will allow parents to job search, prepare resumes and improve basic computer skills while their child sits next to them engaged in learning while having fun on the early literacy stations.”

Pro Action has provided these stations as a service to Steuben County families. Funding was made possible through the Community Services Block Grant.
